Cooperation with regional partners, short distances, sustainability and the taste of the Styrian Enns Valley are important ingredients for our Pichlarner cuisine. So that you can enjoy the delicacies from our gourmet kitchen to the full, we focus on first-class quality and maximum taste.
Try our Trautenfelser char “Müllerin” with parsley potatoes and colorful leaf salad. Our char come directly from the neighboring village – with a journey of only 10 minutes and first-class freshness.
Against the backdrop of the majestic Grimmings, the fish grow slowly and naturally in clear, cool spring water. You can taste this special origin in every bite: tender meat, pure taste and of the highest quality – a piece of regional cuisine that we are delighted to bring to your plate.
The Trautenfels fish ponds
At the foot of the picturesque Trautenfels Castle lie the idyllic fish ponds, which have been in the experienced hands of fish farmer Erwin Gruber for over 20 years. With great expertise, passion and tireless commitment, he runs the business as a dedicated sole trader.
The fact that fish farming is his passion is immediately apparent when you talk to Erwin Gruber. The site at Schloss Trautenfels covers around four hectares and includes several ponds and streams for rearing seedlings, adult fish and a pond where you can also fish for yourself. Rainbow trout, char, brown trout and sometimes golden trout are bred here. The cold mountain water is perfect for breeding salmon.
There are also carp here, but Erwin Gruber has to buy them in when they are still small, as the waters are too cold for the carp to spawn.
A long-standing partnership
For around 25 years, Schloss Pichlarn has relied on the first-class quality of Erwin Gruber’s fish. His fish not only impress with their freshness and taste, but also reflect the care and passion with which they are reared.
In addition to selling fish to the catering trade, you can also buy fresh fish and smoked fish directly from him, as well as seedlings or freshly prepared and beautifully presented fish platters.
If you feel like it and bring your own fishing equipment, you can also buy a day ticket and fish for yourself. However, the following applies: fish that are caught must also be taken home. The fish caught are paid for by the kilogram. In addition to trout, char, brown trout and rainbow trout, carp and pike also swim in the pond for anglers.

Indulgence highlight in Restaurant 19
During the summer months, our kitchen team serves you a special treat in our Restaurant 19: freshly caught home-smoked trout from the Trautenfels fishery.
Every Thursday we smoke ourselves on our estate and serve you this culinary specialty from 14:00 in our Restaurant 19 – a real delicacy from the Trautenfels fishery. Finished with chive butter, Styrian horseradish, vine tomatoes and a bread praline from the Trafella artisan bakery.
