THE PLACE TO ENJOY

THROUGH THE SALZKAMMERGUT TO PICHLARN CASTLE

If you travel from Salzburg to the IMLAUER Hotel Schloss Pichlarn, you can do so on one of the most beautiful routes in Austria, the Austrian Romantic Road. Beautiful landscapes, magnificent views and world-famous sights and excursion destinations await you.

Follow us on the Austrian Romantic Road, which will take you from Salzburg to Aigen in the Styrian Enns Valley in about 1 hour and 50 minutes, where you can spend wonderful vacation days in our beautiful 5-star resort IMLAUER Hotel Schloss Pichlarn.

Austria’s lake paradise

The route starts from Salzburg on the B 158, past the Gaisberg and the Salzburgring to Lake Fuschl. It offers a wonderful gateway to the Salzkammergut with its crystal-clear lakes, wild and romantic mountain panoramas and lush colors. The road runs parallel to the long side of the lake for approx. 4 km.

If you prefer to take the highway (A1) for the first stretch, you can drive to Mondsee and change to the country road (B 154) there. The route continues along the Mondsee towards Wolfgangsee, where you meet the B 158 again.

The picturesque towns of St. Gilgen, St. Wolfgang and Strobl on Lake Wolfgangsee are perfect for a short break. If you have the time and inclination, climb the 1,793 m high Schafberg with the Schafberg cable car and enjoy the breathtaking view over Lake Wolfgangsee and the Salzkammergut.

This beautiful city is definitely worth a visit. Here you can experience the imperial flair of days gone by and visit the rooms of the imperial villa and the Marmorschlössl.

2024 is a special year for Bad Ischl, as it is, together with the Salzkammergut
European Capital of Culture
and offers a rich cultural program with numerous events and exhibitions.

World-famous sights

From Bad Ischl, continue south on the B 145, past the Predigtstuhl and the Ewige Wand. After Bad Goisern you have the option of changing to the B 166 to make a detour to Hallstatt and Lake Hallstatt.

In addition to the picturesque historic town, a salt mine, a boat trip on Lake Hallstatt and the Hallstatt Skywalk offer unforgettable views.

The official Romantic Road ends in Hallstatt. The onward journey on the B 145 is no less romantic and worth seeing.

As you continue on the B 145 to Bad Mitterndorf and past the Tauplitz, you have your first magnificent views of the north side of the majestic Grimming, Europe’s largest stand-alone mountain block.
